Principal's Message

Dear Monterey Highlands Community,

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I write this letter to you as the incoming principal of Monterey Highlands Elementary School. I am honored to have been given the opportunity to become part of the Monterey Highlands community, which is known for its dedication and excellence for the children and community it serves. I can already tell that it is a unique and special place that I am incredibly excited to become a part of.

I have been a proud employee of the Alhambra Unified School District for the past 22 years. I began my career with AUSD as a health assistant, moved on to serve as an office assistant while working on my Bachelor's Degree. Soon after, I moved on to serve as a special education teacher in a Special Day Class. Although I received great joy supporting students in the classroom, I accepted the opportunity to continue to serve the AUSD community as an instructional specialist in the District's Educational Services and New Teacher Induction department supporting teachers entering this exciting and most gratifying profession. It was during this experience that I decided to take yet another challenge and obtained my administrative credential. Since then, I have served as Assistant Principal and most recently Coordinator of Special Education and now as Principal of Monterey Highlands Elementary School.

I consider my most important job to be that of a child advocate. I look forward to spending a lot of time with your children, getting to know their personalities, learning styles, and interests. I believe in the importance of celebrating their successes, small and large. My goal is to encourage them every day and let them know they are valued and have a special place in our school community so that they are healthy, happy, safe, and ready to learn. Not only am I excited to begin working with your children, but I look forward to the work we will do together. I am a true believer of the old proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child,” it is through our partnership and collaboration that we will continue to move our children forward to heights never seen before. I am excited to see your children through your eyes. I cannot wait to share with you the great things they accomplish.

I so look forward to all the learning and activities we will experience and share together as a community and school. Wishing you a wonderful 2021-22 school year!
