Reimagining the Future of Alhambra USD

Like most of LA County and the State of California, the enrollment in Alhambra Unified School District has experienced a steady decline in student enrollment over the past few decades. Changes to enrollment can be challenging, but they also provide an opportunity to thoughtfully consider the future of the district and how it can continue providing strong educational experiences for students. This video, featuring Superintendent Dr. Denise R. Jaramillo and Student Board Member Angelina Yip, gives you an overview of why the Enrollment Impact Committee's work is so important to Alhambra Unified School District and why we need YOU to be involved.

for over 140 years Alhambra Unified School District has served this community by helping students learn grow and achieve their dreams our schools have changed over the years but our commitment to student and their families has remained the same hello I'm Dr Denise hueramo the incredibly proud superintendent of the Alhambra Unified School District like so many of you Alhambra has been part of my life for a very long time I attended school here I began my teaching career here and now I have the incredible opportunity to lead this organization when I first began teaching here in ausd our district served well over 20,000 students and our schools and Facilities were built to serve a student population of that size today we serve just over 14,000 students across those same 18 campus like many school districts across the state of California a USD has experienced declining enrollment for a number of years today we are feeling the impact of that decline most significantly at our elementary schools while declining enrollment presents some real challenges it also gives us an opportunity an opportunity to thoughtfully consider what these changes mean for our schools our staff our resources and most importantly for the students we serve now's the time for us to think carefully about the future of a USD to build on what's working response thoughtfully to what's changing and ensure that our schools remain strong and vibrant for the students and families we serve today and for generations to come this past February our district formed an enrollment impact committee or EIC that was tasked with studying enrollment Trends demographic data and the factors affecting student enrollment while comparing Alhambra Unified with neighboring school districts in the San Gabriel Valley across Los Angelus County and throughout the state of California the data helps us understand where we've been and to a certain extent where our enrollment is headed what the data doesn't tell us is the real impact the enrollment decline is having on the program Services provided to our students or what the Community Values most Only Our Community Partners can do that that's why we're inviting families students staff and community members to help shape and reimagine the future of a USD over the coming weeks we'll be asking you to complete a community survey and to join us at a community conversations event which will be held at each of our 13 elementary schools I strongly encourage you to join 1 of these meetings so that we can get your input these conversations are our opportunity to listen ask questions work together to write the next chapter in Alhambra Unified story hi my name is Angelina yep and as the current Alhambra Unified School District's student board member I have the privilege of representing students across the district I am proud to be an ausd senior and have attended I'll have a Unified Schools since the first grade this district has given me numerous opportunities that has helped shaped who I am today and I want to ensure that future generations of AUC students have those same opportunities that's why we need your voice please visit w wwd us to learn more about the enrollment impact committee complete our community survey and join us at 1 of our community conversations together we can honor a usd's proud history by helping shape and reimagine its future we hope you'll be a part of the conversation
